Port Clinton Beaches & Parks on Lake Erie
From our guest guide, updated September 2026. Hours and seasons change, especially after Labor Day, so check before you go.
Lakeview Park & Port Clinton City Beach (1 block from our house)
1100 E. Perry St. A sandy city beach across Perry Street from the playground, plus picnic shelters, charcoal grills, a basketball court, restrooms, walking paths and Ottawa County’s Flagship Collaborative Play Place, an all-abilities, nautical-themed playground. The park is generally open dawn to dusk and hosts Arts in the Park. The seasonal concession stand (drinks, snacks, Toft’s ice cream, some beach gear) runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., weather permitting.
Swim note: Lake Erie water quality is tested in season. Check Ohio BeachGuard for advisories, especially after heavy rain. Lake Erie is colder than it looks, even in September.
Waterworks Park
A short drive west on SR 163. Sandy beach, fishing pier, playground, a quarter-mile pond loop, restrooms, the Walleye Festival grounds and the historic Port Clinton Lighthouse (Saturday tours noon–5, Memorial Day to Labor Day, $3). A community splash pad was planned for 2026; confirm it’s running. Seasonal kayak and paddleboard rentals have operated here.
State parks nearby
- Catawba Island State Park: cobblestone beach, kayak launch, picnic shelter and boat ramps; 6 a.m.–11 p.m., no entrance fee; 10–15 minutes away.
- East Harbor State Park (Marblehead): Ohio’s bigger beaches, hiking, wetlands and birding.
Sunset tip: you don’t need a plan. Walk one block to the beach.
