Port Clinton Walleye Fishing: Charters, Licenses & Shore Spots

Port Clinton is the “Walleye Capital of the World.” Western Lake Erie is famous for walleye and yellow perch, with smallmouth bass and white bass too. The spring walleye run and the fall bite are the headline seasons, and summer can be excellent when the weather cooperates.

Finding a walleye charter

Ask each captain what’s included (tackle, bait, cleaning), the group size limit, the deposit and weather policy, and whether they clean and bag the catch. Prices vary by boat, so we don’t list them. Charters book up on summer weekends and during the walleye runs, so reserve early.

Shore fishing near the house

Try the Waterworks Park pier and the Portage River in Port Clinton, the big pier at Catawba Island State Park, Mazurik Fishing Access on the Marblehead Peninsula, and the South Bass Island State Park pier. A license is still required.

Why fishing groups stay with us

One group of guests comes to Port Clinton every year for a father-and-son fishing trip and told us they’ll keep renting this house. It has four bedrooms, two baths and room for 8, a backyard with a grill and fire pit for the fish fry, and it’s about 0.9 miles from the Fisherman’s Wharf charter desk downtown. See the house or check dates.
